Wednesday, July 12th (Day 8)

Doing all three Moose Jaw tunnels today (Chicago connection, Chinese immigration, and Cold War). The tunnels are under the streets of Downtown Moose Jaw. Actors tell the story of each of them.

Going to take the waters (lol) first thing (the pool opens at 7 am for hotel guest).

There’s a couple of restaurants that look interesting on Main St. that we’ll probably check out later too.

*******

We did the Chicago Connection first. It was somewhat amusing pretending to be bootleggers and hearing about Capone’s dealings in the city.

Next, we did Passage to Freedom. Started in a fictional laundromat that is based on historic accounts, run by a racist British settler.

Trying poutine perogies and take out wings from Deja Vu (they have 100+ flavours). They were actually on “You’ve Gotta Eat Here”. Think perogies are a thing in Saskatchewan, I guess because of Polish or Ukrainian immigration.

The second floor of the Hive is where the Chicago Connection tour started. We had a few minutes before our next tunnel tour, so we went back and bought a couple of scones.
The Passage to Freedom tour was less silly and more historic. Discussed the Head Tax and the racism and deplorable conditions the men from China had to endure trying to pay off their passage and create a better life in Canada with their families back in China – the year was 1907.
Perogy Poutine
Got the shot again with Nala…not a lot to look at actually along Main St. Had a bit of extra time to look around because mom opted out of the Western Development Museum as this branch deals with only transportation.
Dogs won’t allowed in this park?!?!
Lol
This is where the last tour starts – we’re suppose to be doing a tour of the fruit warehouse, but end up being toured around the Cold War bunker mistakenly as new recruits.
Moose Jaw actually has a mural tour
Just had a sandwich and coffee at the Morningside Cafe right by the pool for dinner.
